How to be prepared for an earthquake in California?

Sorry if this post is out of place, but last night before bed was listening to the news and heard about the land, the recent earthquakes along the Pacific rim of fire, Japan's nuclear dumping Chatsworth, Peru, Mexico and some other then that night I went to bed after I had a disturbing dream about a land of great earthquake striking the Los Angeles basin and all water and electricity and gas being lost and all highways and other infrastructure that were lost due to this widespread disaster on the radio saying that the quake was the largest land in California history also mentioned that people are looting and martial law was declared and it would be a few weeks before food and water we reach. What are some of the ways to be prepared for a family of three kinds incedent Case of Katrina, that money is of some use? Granted water and dry food would go with the saying.

I teach in the Bay area, which is very tectonically active, and encourage my students to be prepared disaster. First, everyone should have an earthquake (or emergency) cube in an accessible place in your home, workplace, and the vehicle (s). Readily available means in a place to spend a lot of time, under your desk at work or in the living room. Things that should be included here are: 1. Water, water, water. Expert investigation say that if a major emergency, you should have 7 days of water in hand (only in California says 3, but this is an underestimate). Katrina taught us much about this. 2. FOOD. Obvious, but these things are high in calories as chocolate bars and granola bars. If you're like me and may be tempted eating, your bucket emergency reserve …. dry food. You will not eat it until you are desperate. 3. BLEACH. 5 drops of bleach in one gallon of water kills everything and make it potable. 4. FIRST AID. Include things for managing pain, bleeding, burns. 5. STRING. 6. Flashlight. No battery is best. You can get the guy shakes for less than $ 25. Batteries wetlands are useless. 7. RADIO. Without batteries too. Crank radios are less expensive and can keep up with news and emergency information. 8. HAMMER ROCK. This has many applications, especially if they are caught. 9. Medications you or members of your family need, including inhalers and Epipens. 10. DESERT RUGS. These are the leaves looking for tiny things that can keep warm, be used for signaling for help, and can be used to help carry things. 11. CANDLES and lighters. It is said that a lighted candle in a closed car provides enough warmth in cold conditions. 12. Local maps and compass. 13. OPENERS just in case. We also have:-A few meeting places for you and your family (priority) in the case of an emergency of great magnitude and are separated. emergency routes out of your home, workplace, school and the city. List of emergency numbers: fire, police, highway patrol, local hospitals, poison control, out of touch with the people (in the city and outside the city). Note: In a 911 quickly flooded, as it can not handle a large volume of calls at all.
