St. Joseph, Missouri, was founded by fur trader Joseph Robidoux, who lived from 1783 to 1.868. The location in northwest Missouri, where Joseph Robidoux established Trade your Blacksnake Hills today is not St. Joseph, Missouri, with a population of about 75,000.

Years before founding one of the ten days current largest cities in the state of Missouri Robidoux grew up across the state of San Luis, Missouri, where he had six brothers. From an early age Joseph and his brothers were taught the family business, the fur trade by his father, who in the eighteenth century began to send Joseph and the Missouri River in adolescence to perfect his craft.

In what is now the city of Chicago Joseph Robidoux established a fur trading post near Fort Dearborn, Illinois, but ironically its success led to death. As the legend says Joseph was a most competent young entrepreneur who established the practice of older men do not think his job too well of a young newcomer and enter its territory and the disruption of established business. To correct the disturbance that caused the local Joseph Fort Dearborn persuaded Local Indians to threaten and annoy Joe until he was literally kicked out of the city.

After leaving Illinois Joseph was established in the current Omaha, Nebraska, and settled down with his second wife (after the 1805 death of his first wife Eugenia) with a wedding in 1813 to Angelique Vaudry. Between his two marriages Joseph had eight children (two from his first marriage and six from the second) and today the names of many of these children adorn some of the most commonly used streets in the city of St. Joseph, Missouri, who eventually founded. Among the names of their children who have been immortalized with streets named in his honor Messanie, Pharaoh Francis, Felix and Edmundo. While names probably sound a bit more old people in the XXI century nobody who has spent a significant amount of time near St. Joseph, Missouri immediately recognizes names of some of the highest traffic streets in the city.

Joseph Robidoux successfully sold his fur trading business in Nebraska in 1822 for American Fur Company, and decided to leave the area after having been motivated by the American Fur Company with an annual payment of $ 1.000 to comply with an agreement not to compete.

After spending time back in San Luis, after selling his business to the American Fur Company Robidoux was later hired by the American Society of skin to start a post trade Blacksnake Hills in northwest Missouri, near Kansas City and in doing so, Joseph Robidoux laid the foundation for the city of St. Joseph, Missouri, which has held its namesake more than 150 years.
