"I can go on a journey of three and a half weeks in Peru with $ 2,000?

My best friend and I decided to travel together at random for this summer, and decided on Peru very quickly. We have much in the planning and all that, and I assumed I'd have enough money to go. I was willing to spend all my money, but when we start to add up the costs, I started worrying I might not be enough. The flight to Peru is $ 410, and I was hoping to save about $ 2,000 for then. We want to see Lima, Cusco (and Machu Picchu), Puerto Maldonado, Lake Titicaca, and then back along the coast. With transportation, lodging, food, and perhaps some tours and excursions and all that, can someone who has been to Peru to make a guess about whether this is enough money to do the things we want for a month spent in Peru? Thanks for any suggestions or help you may have! We are both 21. We are willing to live with little money, take buses, etc, but do not want money constraints to interfere in some of the important things we want to do in Peru.

I was born and raised in Peru, and I can tell you that even Peruvians themselves who are willing to do the kind of trip you're thinking of spending more than $ 2.000. If I were you I would cut travel to Puerto Maldonado, with more than than likely spend a third of his journey to get there, even if you take a bus. Despite the distance from one city to find short, I believe my friend, do not are! Travelling to the coastal area of Peru is relatively faster than doing it in the mountains or the jungle.
