When Christopher Columbus landed on the Spanish in 1492, called the coast of Puerto Plata in the north coast of the Dominican Republic, the land more beautiful under heaven. With its long white beaches and lush green valleys cradled by majestic mountain ranges coast, Puerto Plata is still a major destinations all inclusive trip to the Caribbean. It has many luxury resorts and entertainment, land and water sports, casinos and spas, and many other fun activities.

The Dominican Republic – which occupies more than half of the island – has a traditional Spanish influence and culture. It was in these lands Columbus landed in the New World to claim the new territory of Spain. I thought you had conquered India by the Spanish empire, and one of his first acts was to appoint his son Diego, the governor. Columbus had been promised by his Queen Isabella, that if you open a passage correctly western spices and jewels of India, which was to grant him his daughter in marriage. Columbus established the first European town in the Americas and called Elizabeth, and others soon followed Spanish settlement to cultivate the fertile soil that would produce food crops throughout the year. Most of the indigenous population was eliminated due to war and disease.

African slaves brought to work on plantations, coupled with the population, but remained mostly in the east. After the discovery of gold in the lands of support from Mexico and Peru to the west, the Spanish island was largely neglected. The French took advantage of declining Spanish interest to seize Hispaniola with little opposition. Island was renamed Haiti. It took 300 years to the Spanish to regain of the island, and even then one third of the island was in French hands. The French third is Haiti today, and two-thirds Spanish became the all-inclusive Dominican Republic. Most people in the Dominican Republic consists of rural subsistence farmers, but there are large plantations sugar employing rural workers. The majority of the population lives in a small or two-room shacks with dirt floors and thatched roofs. Fishing is also a major industry, and the inhabitants of the city work in factories and live in apartment buildings built in traditional Spanish style.

Today the Dom Rep (as it is called) is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the Caribbean, famous not only for the spectacular beaches and crystalline waters, but also by fabulous nightlife, dancing to merengue music with its mix of lively African rhythms and Spanish maraca rattle rhythm, and its many historic sights. The America's first cathedral was erected in 1512, and Columbus is believed to be buried in the Cathedral of Santo Domingo. The University of Santo Domingo, founded in 1538, is the university oldest in the Americas. The Spanish colonial architecture, the entire all-inclusive hotels, the friendly, quiet town, and the spectacular beauty of the landscape that ensures that visitors return again and again.

The all inclusive Dominican Republic experience awaits your pleasure with its fabulous all inclusive hotels and resorts on Puerto Plata. Dom Rep is the Caribbean all inclusive travel experience par excellence.
