How can you just do Machu Picchu?

My husband and I are looking to go to Peru for a vacation in late November. Possibly they to spend seven days in Peru in total. We want to go to Machu Picchu, but we're not really big on hiking. I've been trying to find a way to get only Machu Picchu without having to do a walk of 10 days (which is all I can find). Can anyone give me any information on the train straight there? Or … whatever? I just need a little help in general. I can not find a good website that explains nothing. I also heard that you need to wait three days for permission to walk … That would be just to do the Inca Trail? Or if you want to visit Machu Picchu? Thanks to all who posted! You have given us great information!

Go from Lima to Cusco by plane, either by Lan Peru www. lan.com, Aero Condor or Star. Once in Cuzco, practically the only way to get to Machu Picchu is by train, Inca Trail (the rise) is another option (2, 3 or 4 days, not 10). There are four types of trains and takes about four hours. Directions:-Autovagón (your local train. It is very cheap, travels with the local population, which can sometimes only be chickens!) – Backpacker Train – Vistadome – Hiram Bingham train (luxury travel), these three last trains are operated by Orient Express http://www.orient-express.com/web/tper/tper_a2a_home.jsp All trains arriving in Aguas Calientes, a small town at the foot of the mountain Machu Picchu famous the only place that has hotels, souvenir shops and restaurants. From there, take a bus up the hill (tickets are purchased at Aguas Calientes unless your agency travel, books in advance) buses up and down every 10 minutes from 5:30 am (to see the sunrise) until 6:30 when the ruins are closed. At the entrance MP Shrine buy a ticket to enter the ruins. Another way to go is to get to Ollantaytambo by road and take the train from there to reach Aguas Calientes (only 1.5 hrs.) In your hotel you can ask for a referral to a taxi driver to take you to Ollantaytambo, in the case of persons affiliated with a taxi company and offer this service as income extra for them. Please, never get one in the street! Here are some extra links for you: www.peru.info (Peruvian Official tourist information site) www.boletoturisticocusco.com (here thay sell all the tickets for most museums, ruins and churches, with the exception of Machu Picchu). www.cuscorestaurants.com Permission is only for the Inca Trail. Note: Cusco is 3400 meters above sea level, many people get altitude sickness really awfull. To help prevent this, the first day to get plenty of rest, do not eat much, just a "soup de Mendieta" there is a coca tea and special pills, but trust me, will not work! Just rest the next day you feel better, and if possible, go to the Sacred Valley (Yucay, Pisac, Urubamba and Ollantaytambo Even Picchu M) in the first place is 1000 meters lower than Cusco. have a good trip!

This is the story of my backpacking journey through Easter Island, Chile, Argentina and Peru. It was a physical, emotional as well as a journey to better understand this world. I was an Indian looking man originally from Bangladesh, a Muslim, now an Australian citizen living in Australia – travelling solo through exotic landscape and people of South America, where most travelers and backpackers we…
