Can anyone help me please answer this ASAP?
During an El Nino year, winds push warm water toward the coast of Peru and Ecuador. What effect does the hot water has the temperature and precipitation in Peru and Ecuador? Thanks:)
Peru and Ecuador usually have moderate temperature by cold water upwelling caused by strong winds. This not only cools the temperature around these regions, but also maintains the low temperature of dew point, resulting in reduced rainfall, then normally expected for a tropical area. During years of El NiƱo, trade winds weaken or even reverse, ending the cold upwelling of deep ocean. This results in temperatures warm rains are more abundant dew points, and for the regions of Ecuador and Peru, especially during the winter. As a brief note, the winds rarely really pushing the warm water toward the coast of Peru and Ecuador. What really happens is the weakening of trade winds allows a bulge of warm water westward flow east again and overwhelm the upwelling of cold in the region, but gravity is the main driver of this force. The winds are not really pushing water toward the east as and stop pushing water toward the west.
