How much does it cost for a North American to own property in Peru?
I am interested in the relative cost of land-ownership, maintenance, security, and other legal fees of purchasing a small home/condo in Cuzco or the surrounding area. It would be maintained solely as a summer (SH winter) home.
Also, if you are a North American who owns property in Peru, do you recommend doing so, or is it better to find a reliable rental plan?
I would only worry if someone like Ollanta Humala (under Hugo Chavez’s payroll) gets to Office on next elections (2011) if any other candidate wins, everything will remain the same.
Although, even if Ollanta Humala wins, it doesn’t mean he’s going to take away your property, but it can be a gret opportunity to buy property. In the latest elections back in 2006, properties and Stock Market had a huge downfall few weeks before the elections. Because Humala obtained 26% and the other candidates Alan Garcia 20.4% & LourdesFlores 19.98%. Then on the second round Garcia won 52.6% – 47.4% over Humala.
