Oil away from pain
Here is a likely source of pain relief – emu oil.
The emu is the national bird Australia. It is the second largest bird of the Earth – just after the ostrich. Emus are vital to Aboriginal culture as a source of food and medicine. Centuries of tradition shown that emu oil is useful for smoothing the skin to reduce pain and inflammation caused by arthritis and wound healing, burns and stings insect (1).
Modern day testing reveals that the Emu Oil is:
- Hypoallergenic – no known side effects, has an irritation of equal water
- Anti-inflammatory – reduces stiffness, pain and bruising
- Anti-bacterial and anti-fungal – is not compatible with growth of either fungi or bacteria, which is considered virtually odorless and capable of a long life

A study in the Forsyth Institute in Boston confirmed that the EMU oil applied to the skin has significant anti-inflammatory properties. (3) Another study, compiled from research conducted in Harner Burn Center in Texas, documented the use of emu oil in the treatment of burns. Ten patients participated in a double-blind study of emu oil test against a placebo for six to twelve months. Photos taken at each stage of the healing process showed a difference in the credit of the emu oil to reduce inflammation and scarring. (5) The American Emu Association was formed in 1989 to support small farmers who raise the EMU and to encourage commitment to the management of human cattle. It is common practice to provide the animals with feed especially formulated and spacious pens with plenty of room for growth and grazing. (6)
