What are the structural components that make up a society?

I am writing a research paper to see how a terrorist group affects society in a country. The terrorist group i am studying (the Shining Path of Peru) is mainly active in drug trafficking, and I know traficking drug affects society in many ways. In what ways can you think? I am open to any ideas. But the real question is: what are the components of to start a company? Once you know what they are, I think I'll be able to answer my own research question in more detail. I'm guessing the quality of education the country is a key component of a society, and which is also being affected by the group. What else is there? thanks:)

As far as the components of a society go, there is the media (newspapers, television, magazines, advertising, propaganda, etc.) that is largely responsible for maintaining of the ideological superstructure of society, as well as entertainment, information, etc. Then comes the productive base (the means of production of goods and services in a society such as factories, offices, retail outlets, and the list is, of course). Then, as you say, is the educational system. In our society, the education system serves primarily to provide added value to the worker as a human commodity in the job market. To the extent that people are commercialized, something like cattle, by the system, the education they receive specialized for certain functions including technical or professional labor force. Importantly, that this, and not the goal of education is the driving force behind what is loosely called "education" in our system (hence emphasis on mathematics, English and science in our secondary and not philosophy or any kind of a healthy lifestyle, which obviously would more beneficial than the calculation of grade 12 and 95% of graduates). You also have the intellectual components, which perform many functions, including teaching at university level, but more importantly, implementation and articulation of the dominant modes of ideological discourse in society and academic disciplines and the articulation of the dominant modes of thought. I admit that this is a brief, general overview, but I hope this helps!

In this, his classic book on the informal economy of Peru and the reasons why poverty can be a breeding ground for terrorists, Hernando De Soto describes the forces that keep people dependent on underground economies: the bureaucratic barriers to legal property ownership and the lack of legal structures that recognize and encourage ownership of assets. It is exactly these forces, de Soto argues, t…

Striding purposefully out into vintage Graham Greene and John le CarrĂ© territory, British novelist Nicholas Shakespeare tells a haunting, violent story about a military policeman from a country very much like Peru and his lifelong mission to track down an infamous rebel leader very much like the head of the Shining Path terrorist group. The tension builds slowly but beautifully, as a journal…

Shadow On the Shining Path

Shadow On the Shining Path

It has taken me twenty years to find the courage to tell the story of those I have killed. A friend told me I am searching for a false expiation. Perhaps he is right. In any case, it is time to name the names of those who died in Peru because of me. It is time to give a fitting obituary to those for whose deaths I was responsible. This is their story. And it is the story of the man we all sought a…
