Peruvian recipes for a gringa? Are there any that *I* can actually prepare?
I am a native Minnesotan and my man is native Peruvian. I would like to make some familiar food for him but when I search for recipes online (like Arroz con Pollo, Papas a la Huancaina, Tamales, Seco de Cabrito, etc.) some of the ingredients are difficult or impossible to get here. Does anyone have any good recipes that I’ll actually find the ingredients for (or good replacements)?
a gringa is pork meat with cheese in a flour tortilla, you can use plain ham or loin with some paprika so it turns red and seasoned with salt and just a little bit of chili powder.
You have to grill or pan fry the roughly sliced and chopped meat (about 1/4 inch slices, almost as if julienned) with some minced bacon (don’t let it get too crispy, it’s supposed to be tender).
Next put in medium low heat the flour tortilla until soft and once warm and fluffy put some monterey jack cheese on it and once it has melted put the cooked meat inside and fold the tortilla to make a taco (not too thick, about 1 inch thick at most) and serve hot.
Minced cilantro and onion, lemon slices and real salsa are a must as garnishes
I’m mexican! pretty close to Peru and gringas are common food here too.
