Is it better to book a package for Peru, or simply present and find out what to do once you arrive?
This is the first time you to America., and potentially the first time you use a vacation package. Having a pre-planned itinerary is a bit disconcerting because I feel that the experience might be rushed. Actually, Machu Picchu is the main reason Im going, but want to know from experience, if its cheaper / adventure to understand things on their own once arrives, or play safe. Thanks
It depends on how well you know Peru and speak Spanish. If you book a package that probably rushed, you do not have freedom, and will cost more. Cusco is a very easy trip to plan yourself because you can find a lot of hotels and places to see online. If you do not speak Spanish well, I suggest you go with someone or someone does find therewho unless booking with an agency (which will cost) If so, the plan before you arrive, (you can find almost everything you need to know about Cusco and Machu Picchu online) and be careful with people on the street in Cuzco, trying to sell hotel stays and travel packages. Most of them try to overload you. I suggest you spend at least a couple of days in Cuzco alone. There is much to view. To reach Machu Picchu, you have to take the train from Cusco to Aguas Calientes (it's expensive, but worth it) and I suggest you stay there for a couple of days. Aguas Calientes is a clean town. Try the hot springs. If you enjoy hiking, there are a lot of ruins around Cuzco. Some of the good backpacking trips. Again, check online, the plan before you go.
