What are the huge stone pictures in Peru called?
There are a series of stones layed out somewhere in Peru as giant pictures.One of them is of a humming bird and another is a spaceman. I thought they were caleld the Naktar lines but I’m not sure of my spelling.
They are named NAZCA LINES, they are geoglyphs (drawings on the ground) located in the Nazca Desert, a high arid plateau that stretches 53 miles between the towns of Nazca and Palpa on the Pampas de Jumana (a large flat area of southern Peru). The drawings include a hummingbird, monkey, spider and lizard, to name only a few of the over 300 drawings. They were created during the Nazca culture in the area, between 200 BC and 600 AD.
The Lines were made by removing the iron-oxide coated pebbles which cover the surface of the desert. When the gravel is removed, they contrast with the light color underneath. In this way the lines were drawn as furrows of a lighter color.
This drawings are so big that you can only see most of them from an airplane… (so the people who made them almost 2000 years ago could never actually se their creations)
There are many theories about what are them used for… some believe that they are a ancient calendar, others think that they where just gifts to their gods, and some even believes that they are landing spots for extraterrestrial space crafts!
