Leaving from Cusco by private bus, we entered the Sacred Valley. Stopping at Pisac market to experience its rich and well known for shopping and lunch, continue to Ollantaytambo.

You can only utter that word carefully to the pronunciation of syllables, and you can only appreciate this city to settle in a few days and the Street rustic stone. Located in the mountains rising from the floor of the Sacred Valley is the gateway to Machu Picchu and the Inca Trail boss that takes about four Hikers days to traverse on its way to the ancient monument. The town of Ollantaytambo is preparing for the adventurer, and feels like a college town in the early 1960 (at least for me!). The sell adventure gear and sunglasses and restaurants selling food plentiful and affordable hot and refreshing cold beer. The sun is strong and the air is fresh.

There are ruins to explore here and is a perfect place to take a moment – or a couple of days – to prepare their energy and thoughts for the journey to Machu Picchu.

Our group met with a shaman named Don Victor qualified. In Spanish "Don" is a title of respect rather than a name, a fact which is useful when you start to wonder why so many people with the same name! Don Victor met our group and took us to a sanctuary Private called "The Garden of illumination" to participate in a ceremony of healing and soul.

Entering the property through a door along the way, with only lights and lanterns to guide us, we are in a courtyard. They told us begin our ceremony in a sweat lodge and move a garden, however, because it was the Summer Solstice, the sweat lodge was being used by your ordinary group. We proceeded along the road, winding past giant cactus and foliage, and several routes to smaller gardens, an open area on a hill. We were not comfortable on the blankets we had brought with us, forming a semicircle around a designated area for fires.

Don Victor's aides began to carry firewood and grass reeds, flowers and plants for the fire. Soon the heat of the fire had the cold to be outdoors in the winter season in the mountains of South America.

During the next five hours – until 3:00 in the morning – we saw that flash of fire and recede, meditating, saw the crescent over the Andes with Venus in the trailer, Eye on the southern sky at night (disorientingly different from the northern sky) and be part of intensive deep shamanic healing work. Was a life changing experience and memorable. And all I can say is that you have to experience it for yourself, because it can not be adequately described.
