I want to go to Peru … Would you say that's a good idea?

It's crazy, I feel strong as I want to go to Peru. Throughout much of my undergraduate career, I've become almost obsessed with Peruvian and Andean music, know the history of the region since the first humans arrived about 15,000 years ago by the Incas and the conquest through the Civil War and Shining Path to the current struggles of the national economy. I desire to live some time in the mountains from there, to get to know people, maybe teach at a school, work with an NGO, writing an ethnography, take pictures … I feel my heart is there and I'm not even Peru. Am I a wierdo for wanting this? Has anyone ever felt like mine a boost from another place?

No, no stranger. Good Idea? Yes … learn a lot watching the "outside world". I would recommend that the first visit. Some things to consider. Visa: The Contries most will not let up and just do what you want for as long as you want (ie, work, stay for a year). Money: In some countries it ask to see if he has enough to support himself before issuing a visa. This normally does not come into play if only going for a couple of weeks. Where do you live? Can you find reality sites on the Internet? Where in the country would like to live? Got passport? Immunization record to date? Will need to take medications with you? Could he replace there? What clothes (Foot Wear included unless you do not mind doing all in flip flops) and supplies need to make? Yes, a visit (or 2 or 3, etc.) will be good so you can investigate, explore, take notes, meet people, and then retreat to the base, see if they still wants to live there …. if so, create your game plan, buy what is need not be bought there, some loose ends at home, get the visa necessary, maybe even rent a place before leaving again, and get on the plane. Good luck!
