After studying the match video sequences show that the fireworks had not put contact Rojas, FIFA gave Brazil a 2-0 win (elimination of Chile World Cup 1990). The team was expelled from the preliminary competition for the Cup 1994 World Cup and Rojas was banned for life (though an amnesty was granted in 2001).
On July 11, 2007, the Chilean Football Federation banned six of the national team players, because of "internal discipline" during the Copa America tournament, for every 20 international matches and none players in history will allow the national team captain. The players were banned captain Jorge Valdivia, defenders Alvaro Ormeno, Rodrigo Tello, Jorge Vargas and Pablo Contreras and striker Reinaldo Navia. Nelson Acosta's resignation as director came after Chile was eliminated from the Copa America 2007. Chile had qualified for the quarterfinals after a 3-2 win over Ecuador and a draw against Mexico 0-0. But two defeats against Brazil sealed the fate of Acosta. Former Argentina manager Marcelo Bielsa was given the task of becoming the present manager of the Chile national team in preparation for a World Cup 2010. On October 16, 2008, Chile beat Argentina 1-0 for the first time in a qualifying competition, making history. Marcelo Bielsa was hailed by the defeat of both Chilean and Argentine people, and this was one of the reasons ended with the resignation of Alfio Basile of Argentina bank.
