Machu Picchu New Year 2009 – What to do?
I travel to South America in late 2008 and wish to receive the New Year in Machu Picchu (I have one and a half to spend in Peru (and Chile?) Before you head to Brazil for Carnival). I am a 27 year old traveling alone and that love traveler on what to do (especially if you have last New Year's there) Thank you.
First, many famous people go to Cuzco for the New Year. During the millennium Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston were there! Now that is near Machu Picchu after 6pm all the tourists, but I'm not an exception in this celebration would have to do with local agencies. There is a hotel there, outside the front door, is not as sophisticated, but I bet it's a little expensive. The other option is to stay 10 minutes in Aguas Calientes and spend the night in the hot spring and then go there at 6 the next morning. Aguas Calientes is a village small only for tourists and has many places to stay and eat. It is connected to Macchu Picchu by train or bus. You can take a little rain in the mountains during December-January, so I would not recommend the Inca Trail, but do not worry about Machu Picchu is crowded because it is low season.
