Campervan hire Lima, Peru?
Hello, we are three people going to Peru in September. Does anyone know any information about the hire a motorhome in Lima? Could be better hire? thanks
I agree with the poster above: rent a car! That said, driving is very different from Europe or North America. Signs (if any) are ignored and only recently have begun to take strong action against REALLY stop at the lights if you're in a big city. Before it was more of a "suggestion" than a rule. Roads are not always up to the edge of the city (even within the city) I know for sure what position you have time constraints. It is not uncommon to see buses stopped on the side of the road b / c who are waiting to go around a curve very close and the other goes first, the road has washed out, a control point, etc. If you are traveling in the country / outside the large cities, there are vast areas you travel through – which could be extremely boring (hundreds of miles of desert SW) or beautiful curves – wind highways through the Andes! You do not want the advantage of an account or stolen in the most dangerous places if something happens to the rent. I suppose one of you speak Spanish – which would help .. but you can see a strange v. easy, although most are friendly and available to help you meet some of those who only see a rich foreigner. In short, I suggest taking the train or flight if a state different from Lima (Cusco, Arequipa, Iquitos, etc) Once inside the state can find local bus stations traveling where you want the head, take local trains (more fun than the tourist trains) or hire a driver. Oh yeah! Carry cash, if you do car! You never know when you may have to pay someone a "fee".
