Can I use my Verizon phone while in Peru to call people that live in the country?
I am currently visiting Peru and I found out that I can call people that live in Peru using my Verizon phone. I can call any land-line number and cellphone number without using a phone card or marking the area code. Will doing this charge me money and if so what is the charging rate/min ? I also checked my Verizon account online and it did not show that I made any calls while in Peru. ( I do not have an International calling plan).
Hi,
I did the same thing when I went home to the Philippines. Because of the sophisticated phone networks, you can actually do that. However, the charges will be very high. For example, the per minute charge was like $2.50/minute when I used my phone to call my friends in the Philippines while I was in the Philippines. The text messages rate were high also. What you can do is use a local cell phone while in Peru. This is the cheapest way to reach your friends and family there.
