Can anyone tell me what papers/documentation I need to live and work in Peru?
Im an Irish/EU citizen, planning to move to Peru next spring to be with my Peruvian boyfriend. . .And I am wondering how long I can legally stay in the country, while I look for work/study or both. Any sensible advice would be greatly appreciated. I do have over 12 years teaching experience, which I’m hoping will be a major advantage in finding work there. Thanks in advance.
P.S I know I only need my passport when visiting Peru, as I have been there many times just visiting. Im specifically looking for information on living and working there.
there is two ways to be able to work in Peru, one is that you have to get a working permit with a visitor (tourist) visa, and renew it every six months (the problem is that the visitor visa has to be renewed out of the country, so, you shall have to go to any close country).
the second is to get what we call “carnet de extranjeria” (foreigners ID), and you get it after you demonstrate a valid reason for staying in the country. The last would be my advice because if you don’t have that type of document and only your passport, you won’t be able to open a bank account, have credit or buy something on your name (like a car)
