It was the Great Flood of the Bible (Noah) a real event?

Native global flood stories are documented as history or legend in almost all regions of the earth. Missionaries of the old world reported their amazement at finding remote tribes already possessing legends with tremendous similarities to the Bible accounts of the floods around the world. HS Bellamy in Moons, Myths and Men estimates that altogether there are over 500 Flood legends. Ancient civilizations such as (China, Babylonia, Wales, Russia, India, USA, Hawaii, Scandinavia, Sumatra, Peru, and Polynesia) have their own versions of a giant flood. These tales of flooding often linked by common elements that parallel the biblical story as a warning of the flood coming, building a boat in advance, the storage of animals, including the family, and the release of birds to determine if the water level has dropped. The overwhelming consistency among flood legends found in distant parts of the world indicates that derive from the same source.

Genetic tests point to the fact all humanity has a common ancestoral woman or, at most, a small common ancestral community. During this time, history and understanding of the world would have been an oral tradition. A flood located, or local "creation story" told to explain the nature of the world is more likely that the origin of the Flood of Noah.
