A beautiful 5-day round trip seeing some of the highlights of what Andalucia has really supply and there is much to see! It's so diverse, so forget the idea that Spain has only sun and beaches and add to the mix, national parks, beautiful wildlife, mountains and long walks, historic towns and cities, good food, amazing wine, music and dance, and ….. the beaches and the sun of course!
I flew from London to Jerez via Madrid on Iberia (although my advice would be to take a flight direct flights), then transferred by bus to Tarifa. This area is rather unique as it marks the meeting of Atlantic and the Mediterranean Sea and only a few miles north of Africa. This area also has two prevailing winds, which makes that the natural flight path for millions of migratory birds as a haven for birdwatchers and at sea level is a haven for windsurfers and kite.
I've always had a love for the Mediterranean, but the west coast of Tarifa, known as Costa de la Luz is quite impressive. Its much more wild, but beautiful beaches sand meeting the Atlantic Ocean, giving views of North Africa on a clear day. Then he went to the west of Cadiz, a city virtually surrounded by water and can boast of being the oldest city in Europe dating from the Phoenicians in 1100bc. The old city is full of narrow streets with small squares full of vibrant market places.
Continuing further west to the coast and arrive at the DoƱana National Park, which offers a wide variety of wildlife, to wetlands in the winter months offer a home to flocks of Pink Flamingo, very rare imperial eagle in the mountains and even more rare Spanish lynx taking safety in the forests of the park. An area of natural beauty.
At the end of the tour, I went again in Jerez, a city that has two main claims. First, is the capital of sherry production and secondly it is the home of the Royal Andalusian School of Equestrian Art, the riding school.
This circuit covers a small amount of Anadalucia, but the real flavor of what can be found. I hope you enjoy this part of the world as much as I did.
