Any advice on traveling in South America?
I am planning to spend my sabbatical in Ecuador, Bolivia and Peru, and wondered if anyone had any advice about what to see, what to look for, what to bring, etc. Thanks much for any help you can give!
I went to Ecuador about 2 years ago. As a tip, I would not carry a wallet with you. Instead, you should get a travel bag. "Crime is bad enough in some areas (notably parts of Quito) and you can get pick pocketed easily. Also, do not let their products out of sight (even for a second). I had done a lot of research before my trip, I had read about crime, and pledged to not be a victim. Behold, I and my girlfriend has two stolen our camera, a 3 star hotel in the middle of the day. I'm trying to make you paranoid, just be smart. Good luck! Reflection: Do not let taxi drivers steal. Do not drink tap water in Ecuador, you should visit a town called Banos (incredible), and also has to go to a lankmark called Half the World (right outside of Quito). Basically Ecuador.
