What is the process of an earthquake?

I live in Lima, Peru, and last Wednesday we just had the strongest quake in the past decades. Cities south of Lima suffered most due to poor structures and materials used in homes and buildings, killing about 500 people from today, leaving nearly 150,000 homeless. The thing is that the whole country is shaking, we had over 400 copies so far, so I wonder how it is possible the whole country is shaking?

Want to know what's shaking all over Peru after the great earthquake? Earthquake waves work which is the same sound waves work. How is it that you can sometimes hear someone when he / she is on the other side of the room? Because the voice that person puts into the air pulses that propagate in all directions at the "speed of sound," and when impulses reach your ear, you hear his voice. Waves of Earthquakes are a similar concept. Tectonic plates are constantly moving and grinding against each other want to change, but the rock deep in the crust locks and prevents movement. Over time (often several hundreds of years …), the pressure builds up enough that the rock was enclosed ruptures, releasing an enormous amount energy and allowing the plates to move. This pulse of energy that is released travels in all directions from where the stone was broken (ie, the "epicenter") traveling through the rock and soil of the earth. As the waves spread out over time begin to be muffled, filtered, and the decrease in general. That's why people do not physically feel the earthquake in Peru in the United States. But in Peru you are close enough to the hypocenter of the earthquakes felt the tremor. It is possible want to know what they are replicas. Results of the replicas of the stress distribution from where they used to be isolated (ie in place of the hypocenter) but was distributed to the surrounding rock after the earthquake. Usually small earthquakes occurring in this tension is distributed and the earth is trying acieve balance.
