Altitude sickness and hyperventilation?
serious issue. I have an anxiety disorder that causes chronic hyperventilation when I get nervous / Anxiety. I will go to Cuzco, Peru soon, where there is a significant risk of altitude sickness, in other words, the lack of oxygen. Since hyperventilating, I take more I need oxygen at a slow rate of Contreras and do not realize until I was dizzy. How will the combined height with hyperventilation affect my chances of getting altitude sickness? Are you going to do worse? Is it dangerous?
That was a good response sent by the RN. Just wanted to add something. An individual begins to hyperventilate when they enter higher altitudes. Is the body's response to try to increase the oxygen content of blood, but at the same time makes you blow dioxide carbon faster (as the RN said.) And the result is called respiratory alkalosis (increased blood pH due to carbon dioxide reduction.) To compensate the body is trying to lose bicarbonate (a natural barrier), making the blood more acidic and drop the pH. His tendency to hyperventilate increase opportunities you altitude sickness. The danger of hyperventilation is that you could pass out, which we must be careful with what you're doing at the time. But do not worry, there are are ways to get around it (knowledge is power:). What the RN said it is good advice, so take that into consideration. Also, but check your doctor first, a medication (a diuretic) used to treat altitude sickness. Acetazolamide is called (not sure what the name which is sold under embargo). Is a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor, and take a few days before the person begins to high altitude. One effect of the drug is to allow increased removal of bicarbonate, so that helps the body to speed up the metabolic acidosis (if taken by a patient is NOT going to high altitude, then the metabolic acidosis resulting from the drug is actually a side effect, but if the person is going to match, this becomes useful.) Look at this if you want, but definitely ask your doctor before use. Alternatively, you could start practicing some relaxation techniques such as meditation, yoga, etc, and learn to control your breathing (which is a great aid in general, and decrease stress in life for that too.) I hope this response helps and have a safe and fun:)
