If the comparison of today's modern alongised political map, where would the Lord of the Rings Middle-earth take place?

I thought in Europe …. or the North of Africa (if rotated 90 degrees to the left. There is no strong correlation between the map of Middle Earth and the real world. Tolkien intentionally developed maps of Middle Earth to be completely fictional.
